THE PROJECT SO FAR

LEAF

Sugar Valley - Quinta Vale de Canas will produce the highest quality fruits, vegetables and other products grown by combining the principles of biodynamic farming and permaculture and aligning with nature to be free of synthetic pesticides and herbicides. By renting an eco-luxury self-catering villa, attending an event or workshop, guests will enjoy the abundant experience of a small piece of heaven on earth.

Current state of the Sugar Valley Farm:

We have approximately 75,000 sqm, 7.5 hectares or 18.5 acres of abandoned Orange and Peach orchards which had not been treated for around six to eight years. We have cleared the dead trees, removed the old irrigation system and fenced the main plot. We have also cut and pruned the living orange trees. Soil samples were taken and showed good results.

Our next steps:

Planning agricultural produce, building the farm support structure (office, locker rooms, showers, green houses etc.) and starting to grow more produce.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

LEAF

We have recruited a farmer whose role is to understand the responsibility, the needs and care of the plants and animals.

The Biodynamic and Permaculture approaches operate without chemical substances and instead invest in an evolutionary cycle of improving soil quality for a robust long-term result, instead of short-term solutions that speed up the work and progress.

The animals kept on the farm must be offered a life free from coercion and mistreatment. The cooperation between living beings (human, animal, plant and earth) is based on the principles of respect and love. Only in this way can an optimal result be achieved. And this is what we're passionate about, if you love mother Earth and you bring the skills - the journey will start for you here.

Principle number 1 is: Everyone is treated with RESPECT, LOVE and ATTENTION

And this what you need to bring to the Party:

  • You have experience in biodynamic growing and/or permaculture - if not, you have experience in growing produce and are interested in organic farming
  • Love for nature and animals

  • Not afraid of/enjoy physical work

  • Sense of humour
